Would you like to play a key role in securing the next generation of bridge and navigation systems on board vessels around the world? As a Maritime OT Cybersecurity Engineer at Alphatron Marine, you will work at the intersection of cybersecurity, network technology, and maritime innovation. You will translate complex cybersecurity requirements into secure and reliable solutions that are deployed daily on vessels across the globe.

Your Mission as a Maritime OT Cybersecurity Engineer!

At Alphatron Marine / JRC, you make a direct impact on the future of vessel cyber safety. You are the technical backbone ensuring our Integrated Bridge Systems, navigation systems, and OT networks operate securely and reliably onboard vessels in accordance with applicable cybersecurity and Classification Society requirements.

The environment is dynamic. One moment you may be preparing firewall rules and VLAN schemes for a newbuild project, and the next you may be working alongside shipyard technicians, R&D engineers, or Classification Society surveyors to commission IEC 61162-460 gateways and secure bridge networks.

Sitting within our Project Management Department, you will play a key role in ensuring our bridge and navigation systems are resilient, aligned with applicable IACS UR E26/E27 and Classification Society requirements, and securely integrated for safe and reliable vessel operation.

Role Summary

We are seeking a Maritime OT Cybersecurity Engineer to join our Project Management Department. In this role, you will act as the technical lead responsible for the network architecture, configuration, and cybersecurity setup of maritime OT infrastructure, including Type Approved managed switches, IEC 61162-460 gateways, boundary firewalls, and secure Ethernet networks across our solutions and navigation control systems.

You will act as a key technical link between Project Managers, shipyard commissioning teams, R&D engineers, suppliers, and Classification Societies such as DNV, ABS, and Lloyd’s Register, supporting successful cyber-resilience review and approval in accordance with the applicable project scope.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design, security policy definition, DMZ setup, and firewall rule configuration for IEC 61162-460 gateways, OT firewalls, and managed industrial switches across bridge integration projects and vessel OT networks.
  • Develop and implement network segmentation, security zones, and conduits in support of applicable IACS UR E26/E27 and Classification Society requirements, using OT firewalls and secure network architecture to control and protect communications between critical bridge navigation systems such as ECDIS, RADAR, Autopilot, and VDR, shipboard IT, and external communication networks such as VSAT and Starlink.
  • Oversee and support shipyard technicians, installation engineers, and commissioning teams during onboard deployment to ensure OT firewalls, gateways, and switches are correctly installed, configured, and tested in accordance with project specifications.
  • Prepare and submit technical project documentation packages including network topology drawings, IP/VLAN schemes, asset inventories, and OT firewall rulesets for Classification Society review and survey approval.
  • Troubleshoot network, firewall, and connectivity issues during integration and commissioning.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and onboard Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) to validate secure data flows between bridge navigation equipment, OT firewalls, and vessel communication networks.

What Will You Bring to the Team?

  • The ideal candidate brings 3+ years of experience in maritime network engineering, OT/ICS cybersecurity, marine electronics integration, or a similar Systems Delivery or Project Engineering environment.
  • Preferably you have practical working knowledge of IACS UR E26/E27, IEC 61162-460, and IEC 62443 principles, together with hands-on experience configuring maritime or industrial OT firewalls, gateways, and managed switches from vendors such as Moxa, Robustel, Veinland, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of VLANs, ACLs, firewall policy configuration, network segmentation, redundancy, and secure network architecture is expected.
  • Practical familiarity with maritime communication protocols such as IEC 61162-450/460, NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000, and Modbus TCP is desirable. Strong communication skills are important, particularly when working with shipyards, R&D, installation teams, and Classification Society surveyors.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, GICSP, or IEC 62443 Specialist are highly desirable.

What do we offer?

  • A salary between €3.500,- and €6.300,- gross per month, depending on your knowledge and experience.
  • A position of 32 to 40 hours per week.
  • Excellent opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Access to a wide range of online training courses and learning programs.
  • A minimum of 32 vacation days based on a full-time employment contract.
  • An attractive pension scheme with a low employee contribution.
  • Travel allowance.
  • A freshly prepared daily lunch at our headquarters in Rotterdam.
  • An informal organization with short communication lines and highly engaged colleagues.
  • Regular team outings and social events.
